Rachmaninoff - Works for Two Pianos
Rachmaninoff described his Suite no.1 for two pianos as a set of musical pictures with each of the four movements being assigned a title and a literary quotation – from Lemontov, Byron, Tutchev and Khomakov respectively.
The Suite no.2 represents a radical departure from the style of no.1, rather inhabiting the soundworld of the Second Piano Concerto with luxuriant textures, surging melodies and exciting rhythmic energy.
